Three Kings Day Community Celebration

El Museo del Barrio presents Fabiola Méndez in partnership with Carnegie Hall Citywide

Monday, January 6, 2025

1:30 PM to 3:00 PM | FREE

After the Three Kings Day parade, the festivities continue at El Museo del Barrio, with a celebration hosted by the dynamic Rhina Valentin—television host, artist, activist, and beloved "La Reina del Barrio." The program will feature a musical performance presented in partnership with Carnegie Hall Citywide by Fabiola Méndez, a Puerto Rican cuatrista, singer, educator, and EMMY nominated composer focused on the exploration of culture and identity through storytelling. Méndez is known for her unique blend of genres, including folk, jazz, and Afro-Caribbean influences, and showcasing the rich musical traditions of her homeland.

Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Seating is based on first come, first served.

Please note this is an hour and a half long program and we ask that the audience remains for the full duration; If you are a group of 10 or more, please email us at ThreeKings@ElMuseo.org, to request group seating.

About the artist:

Fabiola Méndez’s music is a blend of Folk, Afro-Caribbean & Jazz, with the cuatro, a ten-string traditional guitar of Puerto Rico, as the lead melody. Recognized as the Latin Artist of the Year by the Boston Music Awards, Fabiola and her band have performed on national stages, including the NPR Tiny Desk, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, the Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston, Santurce Fine Arts Center, among many others. Her original music has been recorded in the albums Al Otro Lado del Charco (2019), Afrorriqueña (2021), and Flora Campesina (2024), and she's also featured as a composer on Disney+, PBS Kids, and HBO Max productions. Fabiola holds a Bachelor's in Music from Berklee College of Music, where in 2018 she became the first graduate to play the Puerto Rican cuatro as principal instrument, and is a recipient of the Quincy Jones Award, the Brother Thomas Fellowship, and the ASCAP Lucille and Jack Yellen Award.
